Karue Wiele Sell was born on November 13, 1993 in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil. His parents, Hilmar and Vera, introduced him to tennis at age 5. By age nine, he was already the number one ranked player in his state, a feat he would accomplish in every age group moving forward. By age 11, his talents were noticed by Ivan Kley, who invited him to practice in Itajai at a high level academy featuring some of the best players in the country. Karue trained there until he was 18 years old. During that time, he won numerous titles, was ranked top 5 in the country in every age group, and most notably finished as the number one player U16 in 2009 after reaching the Orange Bowl semi finals.

As a junior, he was ranked as high as number 33 in the ITF rankings, but he decided to take the college tennis route. In 2012, Karue joined the University of California Los Angeles tennis team, one of the most prestigious institutions in the United States. He won over 100 singles matches as a Bruin, reaching the NCAA team final in 2013 and winning 3 PAC 12 conference titles.

After graduating in the spring of 2016, Karue did not pursue a professional career. During that year he worked as a coach at Pepperdine University and hitting partner for professional tennis players. But in the summer of 2017, he decided to follow his dream of playing professional tennis. In his debut, at the Claremont futures in September of 2017, he won 9 matches in route of his first professional title. Since then, he has won 2 more titles and climbed to the top 400 in the ATP ranking in just 7 months.
